To what extent may the assumptions debated in the previous seminars be subsumed into a discussion of self? How do we view the self relative to discussions of technology? What concepts of self have shaped the practices and assumptions that define our field and its constituent body of knowledge? What problems does this position pose for the practitioner and critic? How has the demise of the individual as an absolute (in psychoanalysis and studies of the mind for example) and the new biology impacted on the concept of the self as an historical and sentient being? How do artists and scientists relate to historical models of the self in the current frame works of knowledge production?
