Since I started as a member of the CogNovo research team I have been focused on ‘humanness’ within my topic of ideas exchange. I have become interested in the idea of a central figure of comparison within scientific research. The ‘average’ is a difficult subsection to adhere to, yet it forms the standard basis to which research can subsequently be compared to or that may lead to various treatments. Yet outside this idea of average or norm are aberrant biological occurrences. I hope to focus on the abnormal to study societal as well as professional acceptance of deviation from the biological norm.
I hope to incorporate my design and artistic practice to further examine and experiment within these topic areas by using a range of sculptural, filmic and visual techniques. Furthering my background as a speculative designer, where I studied the human desire for advancement and enhancement, formulating a connection between the potential futures of human directed evolution and the justifications and implications for the study and development of these futures.
