Troy de la Fosse
Troy de la Fosse is a PhD candidate in Transtechnology Research and a Principal Investigator at vagab(o/u)nds research. After completing a Masters at the University of Exeter, and subsequently a PGCE, Troy began a career as a lecturer. Previous experiences in both education and healthcare settings have significantly shaped their research interests. Working across these contexts raised questions about how objects and environments are perceived differently in real life and digital settings, particularly where sensory engagement and practical decision making are involved.
Troy’s current research focuses on the role of sensory perception in how we interpret and interact with material and spatial conditions. Their work explores how unintended outcomes reveal new understandings of process and contingency, drawing on cybernetic ideas of feedback and interaction, alongside a broader investigation into how environments shape, disrupt, and reorient perception.
These investigations are grounded in both educational and healthcare contexts, where tactile engagement, visual interpretation and embodied knowledge influence how people navigate, learn and make decisions within a space.
Through this work, Troy aims to support more responsive and inclusive uses of digital tools and designed environments, particularly in areas such as fabrication, simulation and training. By focusing on how sensory and material experiences influence learning and care, their research offers insights into the perceptual, technological and affective dimensions of both object and spatial interaction in professional practice.
