Troy de la Fosse

Troy de la Fosse BA (hons), MA, PGCE

Troy de la Fosse is a PhD candidate in Art, Technology and Health. After completing a Masters in Theatre Practice at the University of Exeter, and subsequently a PGCE, Troy began a career as a lecturer. Previous experiences in both education and medical settings have significantly shaped their research interests. Working across these contexts raised compelling questions about how objects are perceived differently in real life and digital environments, particularly where sensory engagement and practical decision making are involved.

Troy’s current research focuses on 3D printing and the role of sensory perception in how we interpret and interact with material objects. By examining misprints, errors and other moments of material disruption, their work explores how unintended outcomes can reveal new understandings of process, material agency and contingency. These investigations are grounded in both educational and healthcare contexts, where tactile engagement, visual interpretation and embodied knowledge shape decision making and communication.

Through this work, Troy aims to support more responsive and inclusive uses of digital tools, particularly in areas such as fabrication, simulation and training. By focusing on how sensory and material experiences influence learning and care, their research offers insights into the perceptual, technological and affective dimensions of object interaction in professional practice.
