In a past life I was Professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience at Plymouth University. There my research centred on understanding sensory perceptual organisation from a theoretical / neurocomputational perspective. A fascinating outcome of this research was the demonstration of distinct individual differences in the way in which streams of sounds are perceptually organised, and our perceptual flexibility in doing so. At the most basic level, we constantly switch between different ways of interpreting our sensations. These ideas led to an interesting collaboration with Michael Punt and Martha Blassnigg and the creation of the CogNovo project.

Now in post-retirement, in addition to sailing Ragdoll, I write funding proposals, manage a EU project on civil protection, and return to my original research interests.
